Welcome to my website. I hope you will find this site useful in learning more about me, and the Franklin County Municipal Court. I have practiced law in Franklin County for almost 20 years and am beginning my sixth year as a judge on the Municipal Court bench. I am also serving my second year as Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Court.
As a judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court, I preside over misdemeanor criminal and traffic cases. Misdemeanor offenses carry up to six months in jail with serious misdemeanor offenses (repeat Operating a Vehicle while Impaired cases) carrying up to one year in jail. Examples of traffic misdemeanor offenses are speeding, driving without a license, driving while under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident and Operating a Vehicle while Impaired (OVI) also known as "drunk driving." Examples of criminal misdemeanor offenses are open container of an alcoholic beverage, soliciting for prostitution, underage possession or consumption of alcohol, theft of less than $500, telephone harassment, public indecency, resisting arrest and domestic violence.
I also preside over civil cases where the amount in controversy is $15,000 or less.
I also review applications for search warrants; review applications to have records sealed; set bond on felony and misdemeanor cases that have just been filed and perform civil wedding ceremonies.
I have a great respect for the laws of this state and the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Ohio . My job is to follow the laws and make sure that both the defendants and the victims rights are upheld.
My sentencing philosophy is to hold offenders accountable for their actions, to fashion a sentence so that defendants will hopefully not re-offend and to make victims whole.
I work hard to be fair and balanced and I have high ideals for myself of character, ethics, equality and knowledge of the law.
